PROPER MENTAL ATTITUDE: The proper mental attitude is the most powerful factor in success. A Quarterback that has a great attitude, hard work ethic and is a self-starter … will always have a better opportunity to be successful. Strong thoughts generate strong actions … weak thoughts generate weak actions. Who we are and what we become is a direct result of our own thoughts. A man can only rise, conquer and achieve by lifting up his thoughts. Likewise, hard work, effort, time, practice and sacrifice are all simply forms of investment. Life is so much about sacrifices, investments, and commitments. The more we sacrifice … the more we have to invest …the more we invest … the greater the return will be. We must always remember that life is what we make it. The only reward for “taking the easy path” … is that “it’s easy”.
LEADERSHIP: Leadership is the most important factor in the development of a championship team. Leadership is one of those skills that is possessed by all … but, used by only a few. Furthermore, leadership can be learned by anyone, taught to everyone … and, denied to no one. It is important to note that the most powerful way to lead is through example. Coaches would rather watch a leader than hear one any day. The leader always does the right thing … on and off the field, in and out of the classroom, and on and off the campus. Good strong thoughts will generate good, strong actions. What one does always comes after what one thinks. The successful leader will always take a stand for the best interest of the team.
LOYALTY: There are “no secrets to success” … don’t waste time looking for them. Success is the result of a hard-work ethic, being a self-starter, pursuing perfection, learning from failure, persistence and having loyalty to those for whom you play or work for. The coach is the #1 person in a Quarterback’s life … his loyalty to his coach is critically important to his success. Loyalty is the one thing a leader cannot do without. Everything that you say, everything that you do … should be based on how you think it’s going to impact the football program. You must be and remain faithful to the cause.
DECISION MAKING: Life is very consequential. The power to make a choice is the most powerful gift we have. To change the action … you must change the thinking … to change the thinking you must change what goes into your head. We must have the guts to overcome the storms in our life … peer pressure. Stick to principle … stick to doing the right thing.
